International Student Program

St. Francis High School proudly welcomes students from all over the world.

The vision of our International Student Program is to promote international understanding, to create memorable and diverse learning opportunities, to transform critical intercultural perspectives, and to nurture global connections. Some of our International Students attend St. Francis High School for a few months for an “American experience” and to enhance their English language skills. Other international students attend our school for a true four-year St. Francis High School experience and ultimately earn a St. Francis High School diploma.

Interested International Students from the Asian Continent (China, Hong Kong, Macau, South Korea, Japan, Vietnam and Taiwan) should apply through the Cambridge Network. We take all of our Asian international applications through this organization, and have an exclusive contract with them. • Why host an International Student?

Families host international students for a couple of reasons. Some want to provide an enriching experience for a student from another country, others want their children to forge friendships with students from another culture. Our host families:

    • Expose their family to different cultures and connect with hardworking students.
    • Reap the benefits that come from caring for a student from another country.
    • Practice hospitality and generosity.
    • Build lifelong relationships and enjoy an experience of a lifetime.
  • What is involved with hosting an International Student?

Families who host an international student are enthusiastic about cultural diversity, willing to welcome international guests with an open mind, and provide a safe and warm home environment. A host family of a full-time student participates in a 10-month HomeStay arrangement, running from August through May. International students will require some “TLC” since they are in a country where they are largely unfamiliar with customs and culture. Host families nurture the development of these international students far beyond the classroom. They develop the student’s life skills that they carry with them onto college and into adulthood. Our International Student Program team provides a host family orientation and meets regularly with the students and host families. We offer many layers of support for both the student and the host families. The International Student Program consists of a network of people who communicate regularly to ensure the experience continues to enrich the lives of everyone in the home.
  • What is the process to host a student?

Interested families start by completing the “Request for more Host Parent Information” form below. The Director of the International Student Program then sends you an application for your submittal. An extensive application review, interview, background check, training, and ongoing supervision are all part of the process to ensure proper student/family matching.
Additional questions can be sent to the Director of the International Student Program, Mrs. Beth Erazmus '89 Wiborg at bwiborg@sfhscollegeprep.org or call 630-668-5800 x1140.
  • I am interested in hosting an International Student but I’m not sure I can commit to the 10 month HomeStay requirement. Can I still help?

Yes, you can! In the event a host family needs assistance due to unplanned circumstances, Respite Families help out. A Respite Family is a family who provides temporary or short term care for our students. Our close network of host families often assist when needed, but Respite Families are a welcome addition to the International Student Program team. Individuals interested in becoming a Respite Family can contact the Director of the International Student Program, Mrs. Beth Erazmus '89 Wiborg at bwiborg@sfhscollegeprep.org or call 630-668-5800 x1140.
