Arts at SFHS

St. Francis High School's robust arts program is a creative oasis for students to develop their unique voices as artists. Through visual and digital art, music, and drama, students find their resilience, practice self-expression, gain confidence, build community, and discover their best selves. Our arts teachers guide students to develop a technical toolbox and critical analysis skills that empower them to create art they want to share with the world. Our facilities include modern rehearsal and performance spaces and recording studios. Students have gone on to nationally recognized arts programs, including the Rhode Island School of Design, Savannah School of Arts, Belmont University, The Berklee College of Music, The University of Notre Dame, The University of Illinois (Stage Management/Theatre Tech program), and more.

Available Courses: General Music

Introduction to Music History: Bach to Rock
This course is designed for students interested in all genres of music. Students take a musical journey through history to explore how the music and musicians of the past continue to influence today’s music. The class includes live performance experiences. Open to any Sophomore, Junior, or Senior.
Introduction to Theory & Composition
This introductory class covers the fundamentals of music theory needed to compose quality instrumental and vocal music. Topics include musical notation, intervals, scales, key signatures, chords, and orchestration. Open to any Sophomore, Junior, or Senior who can read music at a beginning level.
AP Music Theory
AP Music Theory is a full-year course aimed at enhancing students’ musicianship through analysis, composition, aural skills, and sight-singing. Students prepare for the AP Music Theory exam in May and study music from the common-practice period. Open to any Sophomore, Junior, or Senior with instructor approval.
