Monterrey Car Week often acts as host to some of the world's craziest cars. It runs yearly from August 12th to August 21st. This year, many new cars were debuted, such as the last of the Bugatti cars to feature the world-famous W16 engine, the 2023 Porsche GT3 RS, and--the best of them all--the Koenigsegg CC850. All of these cars are amazing, but each has their own unique traits that set them apart.
Starting with Bugatti, they released their long-awaited Chiron Roadster, which rather uses the name "W16 Mistral". This car does not look like the original Chiron; however, as expected, it is still the final Bugatti to use the W16 engine--an engine that is essentially 2 V8s crammed together with 4 turbochargers to produce 1,600 horsepower.
In regard to the new Porsche 992 GT3 RS, it comes with a brand-new wing featuring DRS (drag reduction system) along with active aerodynamics in many areas. It also has styling to make it more aggressive with Porsche claiming, "This is the most track-focused car we have ever made." All of these, however, are trumped by the legendary Koenigsegg CC850. This car takes styling cues from Koenigsegg's first line of cars--the "CC" series. These include the CCR, CCX, CCXR, CCXR Trevita, the CCS, and many others. Despite all these models, what makes this car so special is its revolutionary gearbox. The team at Koenigsegg has managed to develop a gearbox that can be driven in both manual and automatic gearing systems. To date, this is the first-ever car to feature this; however, it will not be made widely available, with only 50 total units being produced.
There were many new cars showcased at Monterrey Car Week 2022, including some I didn't talk about like the Delorean Alpha5 and the Lucid Air Sapphire. However, there are three that stand out above the rest: the Koenigsegg CC850, the Bugatti W16 "Mistral", and the Porsche 911 (992 Generation) GT3 RS.
