Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard Trial

Lucy Jania
Johnny Depp has recently sued his ex-wife, Amber Heard, on grounds that she defamed him in an op-ed she had written for The Washington Post. In this post, she claimed to have been abused and referred to herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse."
This Virginia-based trial started on April 12th, 2022, and has been ongoing ever since. The judges involved are desperately trying to uncover the truth about their relationship. So far, this has proven to be a very difficult task due to the fact that both Johnny Depp and Amber Heard are repeatedly accusing each other of domestic abuse in their prior marriage. Back and forth, Depp and Heard have made claims of abuse toward each other such as the following: Depp throwing a phone at Heard, Depp pulling Heard's hair, and Depp shoving Heard to the ground. Depp claims that these accusations are not true, and he himself claims that she punched him in the face.

So far, lawyers have questioned many witnesses about the unclear events that have occurred in their prior marriage, and not much progress has been made. The court lastly went dark on May 5th, and Judge Penney Azcarate announced that the closing arguments are set for May 27th.
