Volley For the Cure

On Thursday, October 7th, all three of the St. Francis girls volleyball teams (Freshman, JV, and Varsity) played a game against St. Edwards, and all three of them won! Congrats, Spartans!
The theme for this night’s games was “Volley for the Cure,” in order to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Both a raffle and a bake sale were open during the games, and even the Blue Crew helped celebrate by wearing all pink. Overall, it was a very fun night for the St. Francis community!

Now, you may be wondering why we celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness in October. Prepare yourself for some shocking facts. The CDC states that each year, 257,300 cases of breast cancer are diagnosed (2,300 of which are in men). This makes breast cancer the 2nd most common form of cancer after skin cancer. It is important to raise awareness for breast cancer during this month of October to help fund research that will hopefully discover a cure someday.
