St. Francis High School Cheerleaders Spring into the New School Year

The St. Francis High School cheerleading teams begin the new school year with an invitation to participate in an exclusive event with the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) and a bid to compete in NCA’s Senior High School National Championship in Dallas.  Both opportunities present some exciting possibilities for the teams to work toward this year.
While at an NCA sponsored camp in July, both the varsity and junior varsity teams earned certificates of completion for the National Federation of State High School Associations Squad Credentialing Requirements course.  This course covers the role of the athlete, as well as safety in the sport.  Five cheerleaders made the NCA All-American Team:  Maggie Mascari ’19 (West Chicago), Courtney Magsanoc ’18 (Bartlett), Evan Schuller ’19 (Bolingbrook), Natasha Williams ’20 (Sugar Grove) and Isabella Capobianco ’18 (West Chicago).

Additionally, Isabella Capobianco ‘18 and Isabella Bertrand ’18 (Glen Ellyn) were presented with the exclusive “Pin It Forward” awards for demonstrating their ability to be exemplary role models through their leadership and spirit.  According to the Varsity.com website, the America Needs Cheerleaders Pin It Forward program “promotes all the values encouraged through cheer, like leadership, spirit, commitment, kindness, and motivation…and the positive ways it affects our lives such as becoming physically fit and healthy, gaining confidence, being involved on campus and in the community, and becoming all-around better athletes.”

Earlier this summer, the St. Francis High School cheerleading and dance teams won the “Best Youth Group” award in Wheaton’s 2017 Independence Day parade.
