SFHS Student Receives Point of Light Award

Krystal LaMantia
SFHS student Rinna Talwar, was recently nominated for a Daily Point of Light award for her service work with The Birthday Giving Program. The Daily Point of Light award is given out each weekday by Points of Light to those extraordinary individuals who are donating their time and talent to better their communities.

Rinna Talwar founded the Senior Citizen Division of The Birthday Program - which was created to help those who are unable to afford a family member’s birthday. Through The Birthday Giving Program children and adults receive a "party in a bag" which provides an opportunity to celebrate their special day. The birthday bags teach children the importance of giving and remind adults that people love and care for them no matter what challenges they face.

In 1989, the late President George H.W. Bush established the Daily Point of Light award during his presidency and today more than 6,500 “points of light” have been recognized.
