St. Francis High School is proud to announce two of its seniors are National Merit Semifinalists this year: congratulations to Elleson C. and Sofia H.! Fewer than 1 percent of high school seniors in the nation are selected as semifinalists in this program each year.
These academically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for approximately 7,140 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $28 million offered next spring.
To be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the Finalist level. About 95 percent of the semifinalists are expected to attain finalist standing, and approximately half of the finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title.
National Merit Scholarship winners of 2024 are announced beginning in April and concluding in July. These scholarship recipients will join nearly 375,000 other distinguished young people who have earned the Merit Scholar title. We are so proud of you!
We would also like to congratulate our Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program:
Robert Barnhisel, John (Jack) Galasso, Lucas Sheahin, and Shanalisa Smith. This designation is for students who score in the top 2-5% on the PSAT/NMSQT. This year, there are approximately 34,000 commended students nationwide.
