The St. Francis High School community would like to extend our condolences to the Hanley family on the passing of Greg Hanley '53, brother of William Hanley '60 (deceased).
Gregory Hanley, age 68, of LaGrange, Illinois. Dear father of Matthew Hanley; devoted son of the late: LeRoy E. and Mary Lois Hanley; fond brother of William (Shelia) Hanley; cherished uncle of Margaret (Mark) Salatino, Brendan and Kevin B. (Mary) Hanley.
Attended Divine Infant Grade School, St Francis High School, DePaul and Worsham School of Mortuary Science.
Greg was a Licensed Trade Embalmer, and later Sheet Metal Worker, accomplished baseball player and fan. He was a member of several gun clubs and loved outdoor activities: camping trips with his son Matt, riding his “Indian” through the back roads of Illinois and Wisconsin. Greg built a dune buggy from a frame of an old Volkswagen, delighting his son and niece and nephews with rides through the cemeteries. He drove a large RV from Chicago to Anchorage and back via the ALCAN Highway in 1968. Made his own ammunition, and built a cannon. Loved fireworks of all kinds and even sent a missile through the wall of Matt’s new house. Retired at age 58, with dreams of moving to the Southwest, he stayed in Chicago to help care for his mother, and five years later suffered a major stroke from which he was not able to recover. Resident of The Grove of LaGrange Park since 2007.
His fun attitude and love of family is what we miss most about Greg.
