This year, we are excited to welcome several new teachers and staff members to St. Francis High School! Let's get to know a little bit about them. Last, but certainly not least, we have Deacon Bob and Mrs. Moriarty!
Deacon Bob Cassey is substitute teaching Junior religion for Mrs. Dougherty. He received a master's degree in Theology in Union Hyde Park in Chicago, a Law degree from the University of Michigan, a master's degree in French, and a philosophy degree from St. Joseph's in Indiana. His favorite subjects were languages including German and French. He has practiced law for many years, taught high school French at the University of Detroit, and taught theology to deacon students. He has been a deacon for 21 years but is also husband, father, and grandfather. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife. He also enjoys watching television, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, plays, and shows. He also likes musicals, and some of his favorites are Les Mis and Man of La Mancha. He believes that the students at St. Francis High School have a surprising gentleness, kindness, empathy, enthusiasm, and openness. He is looking forward to handing back the class to Mrs. Dougherty and maintaining this connection to St. Francis as well as occasionally coming in as a substitute teacher and participating in the all-school Masses.
Mrs. Moriarty teaches Geometry, Honors Geometry, and Algebra I. She graduated with a BA from Loras College, obtained her master’s from National Lewis, and has graduate credits from Georgia Tech. Her favorite subject in school was math, and she has been teaching for about eight years. Mrs. Moriarty's favorite part about her job is assisting her students one-on-one. In her free time, she enjoys reading, travelling to warmer climates, running, being with her family, and yoga. Her favorite movie is Life is Beautiful and favorite book is The Violent Bear It Away by Flannery O'Connor. Her favorite part about St. Francis is how kind and welcoming the teachers and students are. This year, she is most looking forward to getting over the learning curve on technology.
Thank you, Deacon Bob and Mrs. Moriarty! We are so happy to have you in our St. Francis community.
