HOCO in Hawaii

Jackie Gabbert ‘25
The week of September 26th was our very exciting Homecoming week! There were many fun activities and exciting Outta Uniform themes. Our Student Government worked very hard to put together a fun week for our student body. They really brought out the best of Hawaii in our school.
We started off the week with a flight to Hawaii. Everyone wore their airport outfits to school. It was a very comfortable start to the week. Then, after school, the classes went to the cafeteria to paint the windows. The paintings were amazing! Everyone put their best foot forward to make wonderful designs. At the pep rally at the end of the week, they announced that the Sophomores won with their cute painting of Stitch!

Now that we had arrived at our destination, it was time to put on the Hawaiian shirts. The hallways were filled with many colors and fun patterns. The students were also blessed with a half day. Everyone went across the street or to somewhere around the school to have lunch with their friends! It is a great tradition to go out to eat on those fun half days.

Wednesday was the day to show off your favorite destination by wearing a shirt with a city or country name on it. The Sophomores went on their retreat that day, so the hallways were a little less crowded. Then, after school, there was a volleyball tournament where a bunch of teams came together to compete for the championship! Team Hojnicki won! Congrats to Eddie C., Eddie M., Nicole C., Lily G., and Luke H.! They put in a lot of hard work.

As the week was ending, we filled the school with some coral reef colors. Freshmen wore yellow, Sophomores wore orange, Juniors wore purple, and Seniors wore red. It was fun to see who was in each class when walking through the hallways. That evening, the Juniors and Seniors battled it out at the annual Powder Puff game. Those teams worked hard to win. In the end, the Juniors won the game for their class!

It’s finally Friday! It’s the day to show our amazing school spirit and wear blue to celebrate our school! It was like we were under the sea. We had shortened classes, and then at the end of the day, we went to our pep rally where the dance and cheer teams put on a performance for us. The male cheerleaders made us laugh with their energetic dance. We found out our Homecoming king and queen. Congrats to Tim Kasprzak and Amari Talluri-Boye! That night we all went back to school for a fun football game. The theme was Hawaiian, and the student section was filled with colors! Our football team brought home another win, carrying on our undefeated streak.

Now the day everyone has been waiting for… Homecoming! Everyone got all dressed up for the fun Homecoming dance. The music was amazing and the mosh pit was very fun! Thanks again to student government for putting together an amazing week for our student body!
