Characters: 8/10. All the characters in this movie felt fleshed out and helped enrich the story even more. I absolutely loved Robert Pattinson’s take on Batman. When he dawned the cowl, you knew that it was going to get violent. The first scene in the movie encapsulates this by showing that he is the shadows, and when the light in the sky goes up, you should be scared of the dark. I also adored the arc he went through in this movie going from adoring his father to questioning his motives. Catwoman was "meh" in my opinion. She seemed kind of stale and her only motive was to save the girl. She did learn to move on, but that was about it other than the love between Batman and Catwoman, which was a great “will they, won’t they." Gordan was also very well-written and was a great foil to Batman.
Villains: 9/10. The Riddler was such a risk, but I think it was one of the best villains in any superhero movie. He was broken from living in the orphanage and despised the lies that the city held, so he exposed them so that the world could see that Gotham was corrupt. He was seen as a savior to the poor community of Gotham because he showed that a nobody like him could have their voices heard and that they could scare the rich. Penguin was a great addition to the cast, and everything he did was great. I don’t think he was needed, but I understand why they had him in the movie.
Plot: 8/10. The plot runs like your average detective movie with a couple twists and turns here and there, but that was about it. Don’t get me wrong, I love detective movies, and this movie shows that side of Batman amazingly, but I was expecting a little bit more than a violent Sherlock Holmes in a bat suit.
Visuals: 10/10. The camera work was absolutely stunning. The chase scene with Penguin and Batman comes to mind when I think of this movie. I loved the upside-down camera to show the fear that Penguin was feeling when Batman was slowly walking toward him. I also loved the way the opening scene was filmed because you never know where Batman was going to be with the slow zooms into the dark.
Overall: 8.75/10. This movie may have had its flaws, but to me, this is one of the best depictions of Batman or any superhero ever. I am so excited for the next two movies and the upcoming TV shows based off of this movie.
