St. Francis High School as a Micronation: Micronations Part 2

Now, some questions may arise about micronations, and if you’re a little out there like me, you may be wondering how to create your own micronation. Let’s take St. Francis High School for example. What would happen if the entirety of St. Francis decided that they all wanted to make their own micronation? What processes would St. Francis specifically have to go through to become a micronation? Finally, would St. Francis hypothetically survive as its own micronation?
The very first step to making St. Francis a micronation would be a purpose. Since I don’t think St. Francis will be getting into any bank fraud, I suspect we would go for something a little nicer. I think St. Francis would fall under the “why not” category. We currently don’t have any reason to be a micronation, but one may form as we continue building it.

The next thing we have on the list is land. Luckily for us, we already have that. For the purposes of this hypothetical experiment, we are going to assume that the people who own the land St. Francis is on would be fine with us being our own nation and waging wars against other nations. Probably. Then we will have to form a government and draft a constitution. Because we are creating our own nation, legally we can make our rules for election and the constitution as weird as possible. I, for one, think that St. Francis should be a monarchy and the ruler is based on whoever gets the best score on a math test (which would be me). Now, a constitution would be far longer than this article could handle so we’ll just shorten it to “don’t do bad stuff.”

The next two things are acquiring citizens and setting up an economy. Getting citizens should be pretty easy as we already have them: the students. Economy will be in cryptocurrency with the name “Franczoids.” Everything bought within the perimeters of the St. Francis nation will need to be bought by this currency, and no other currency will be accepted.

Next, we will need branding, a way of communication to other fellow nations who we are, and a symbol that would differentiate ourselves from other nations. Now, most may think we could go with the blue and white with the Spartan, but the issue is that it is too common and could be confused with other places that have similar branding. The symbol should be the face of the current ruler, which is me. The currency will also have a similar branding, like the Caesar coins from ancient Rome. The colors would be the ruler's favorite color, which is me, so teal it is.

Finally, last and probably the most important, be prepared to defend your nation. I love how they left this step for last as the “Gotcha” moment. This would be the most difficult hurdle to overcome. As much as I respect everyone at St. Francis, very few are capable of war, and of those, fewer are willing. However, not all nations get into a war, so it is not necessarily something that we may run into while I’m in rule. That’s a problem for another ruler. We’ll just hope that we never have to face that conflict.

St. Francis may not be the most ideal micronation there ever was, but it certainly won’t be the least ideal. However, we may never get there in the first place. This entire hypothetical circumstance of how St. Francis might be a micronation doesn’t include the boring legal stuff that needs to be done as well as the other hurdles that need to be crossed. For now, St. Francis is going to have to remain in its college preparatory school state, and it may never move on to being its own nation. Perhaps that is for the best.

    • Notice how the Chicago northwest suburbs are conveniently lacking in the micronations department?
