Unrest in Kenosha, WI (by Kat McGowan '22)
Jacob Blake, an African American man, was shot seven times on August 23rd by white Kenosha police officers, leading to protests and chaos in Kenosha and other neighboring cities, according to the Wall Street Journal. He was wrongfully shot at, and that resulted in protests. These events continued a pattern of civil unrest in America during the past few months including Chicago, New York, and Portland.
In Jacob Blake’s statement, “Stick together, make some money, make everything easier for our people out there, man, because there’s so much time that’s been wasted.” His statement brings a message towards the United States saying that you need to live your life to the fullest.
The situation now has turned into unrest, with the graffiti and burning of buildings. Shop owners are at a loss of words when it comes to the destruction of their city. Now, the city needs to clean up from the terror that was struck.
