Bob Noonan '63

The St. Francis High School community would like to extend our condolences to the Noonan family on the passing of Robert Noonan '63, brother of Mary Beth Noonan '64.
Robert William Noonan, former Assistant District Attorney for Santa Cruz County, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, on September 26, 2023, of misdiagnosed melanoma. Bob was born on June 26, 1945, in Chicago, IL, to Madeline and Robert Joseph Noonan, the eldest of 5 children. The family moved to Lombard, and he graduated from St. Francis High School in nearby Wheaton with a scholarship to St Mary's College, MN. Upon graduation, Bob was awarded a full scholarship to Norte Dame Law School, where he flourished. He had to make a difficult decision after one year, transferring to Santa Clara Law School in California to help take care of and be close to his beloved mother, who was in failing health. Bob immediately fell in love with California and met his first wife, Sandy; they had two sons, Kevin and Christopher. After graduating from Santa Clara University and passing the bar on his first attempt (he was proud of that), he was hired as a public defender for Santa Clara County, where he worked for two years, until transferring to Santa Cruz County, where he retired after twenty-four years as an Assistant District Attorney. Bob built his dream home in Weed, CA, with a view of Mt. Shasta and relished in the tranquility. He worked in causes he believed in, often volunteering and working for the local county family services child support division. Bob found love again, marrying Loveminda (Luz). He spent the rest of his retirement with his hobbies of refurbishing classic cars and building model train sets. He also kept in touch with his friends as far back as high school. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Madeline and Robert Noonan, and his sister Madeline (Lynn). He is survived by his wife of 18 years, (Luz) Loveminda; his sons, Kevin and Christopher; his brother Greg; his sister, Mary Beth; and his youngest sister, Denise, whom he was close to throughout his life, considering her his best friend /confidant and many close friends, neighbors, and colleagues who love and miss him.At Bob's request, there were no services. As Bob believed in social justice, the Constitution of the United States, and democracy, donations to any organization that will fight to defeat Donald Trump in Bob's honor would make him proud. For inquiries, contact Lisa Carter at spcalisa@aol.com.
