Hello Spartans! Welcome back to my movie reviews! Over the summer, I watched many movies in many different genres. I watched classics like Risky Business and Better Off Dead, new movies like Minions: The Rise of Gru, Elvis, Top Gun Maverick, and Morbius, and even some less recent movies like Whiplash and Blade Runner 2049 (I watched a lot more than just these, these movies are just examples). A couple of the movies I watched this summer really stood out, so I would like to do a couple of mini reviews on some of these movies.
The first movie I want to talk about is Minions: The Rise of Gru. The plot wasn’t the best, the animation was very mediocre, the music was not too bad, and the voice acting also wasn’t that good. All this together raises the question “Why am I talking about it then?” Well, I’m talking about it because of the experience. I went with a big group of 10-15 guys to see the movie. They told me that they were all wearing suits; however, I showed up only to realize that I was the only one in a suit. When the movie finally started, the theater would go crazy at random times which just enhanced the viewing experience overall. In conclusion, the movie got a 6/10 on my scale, but the experience got an 11/10 for being unforgettable.
I can’t do scary movies. I always laugh the entire time by making jokes about the plot. When one of my friends asked me if we wanted to go see The Black Phone, I was in. The characters in the movie were outstanding, but other than that, it was just ok. I loved leaning over to my friend to tell them a joke that would make them laugh in the middle of the theater during a suspenseful section. Did it ruin the entire feel of the movie? Yes. Was it fun? Absolutely. I gave the movie a 7.5/10 overall.
This summer was great for watching movies, but I can’t wait to get into more and more movies as the school year progresses, especially Don't Worry Darling, which we will get into next.
