St. Francis High School is a National Blue Ribbon School!

What is a Blue Ribbon School?

The National Blue Ribbon School Award is the U.S. Department of Education’s highest honor based on superior academic achievement and the implementation of a highly successful, multi-faceted school culture.
St. Francis High School was named a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School with the designation of Exemplary High-Performing School in September 2023.

Only 1% of schools have an active Blue Ribbon Award and 353 schools received the award in 2023.

As of 2023, St. Francis High School is…
  • The only high school in Wheaton, public or private, to ever receive a Blue Ribbon
  • The only Catholic high school in the western suburbs to ever receive a Blue Ribbon
  • One of three Catholic high schools in Illinois with an active blue ribbon
We are also the only school to be named a Microsoft Showcase School and National Blue Ribbon School in the same year.
While public schools are nominated by state officials, private schools must self-nominate and complete an extensive application. The application must include a compelling narrative of school culture, student and faculty engagement, professional development, community partnership, and focus on student leadership that is reviewed by a third-party organization before submission to the U.S. Department of Education

All National Blue Ribbon Schools are featured on the U.S. Department of Education website, where you can read our full application and view our National Blue Ribbon School Profile. Click here to visit the NBRS U.S. Department of Education webpage
