Katherine Ann Johnson '88

The St. Francis High School Community would like to extend our condolences to the Johnson and Dufour families on the passing of Katherine Ann Johnson '88, sister of Adrienne '68, Charles '69, Carol '71Mary '73, and Nancy '76.
Katherine Ann Johnson '88, age 47, a resident of Chicago and Wheaton, Illinois, died on Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at Advocate Illinois Masonic Hospital in Chicago. She was born June 5, 1970 in Winfield, Illinois to Francis M. and Mary F. Johnson.

Kate grew up in Wheaton and attended St. Francis High School and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She met Marc Dufour in Chicago and went on to marry him on December 8, 2009.

She worked in several capacities, including legal secretary, dog walker, and bartender, but her lifelong love of animals is one of the things that meant the most to her. She cared deeply for family, friends and animals of all shapes and sizes.

Kate was a wife, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend; youngest of 7 children and the light of our lives; loving, stubborn, creative. She had a deep, down-to-earth intelligence, acerbic wit, and a love for “The Simpsons” which expressed itself in an ability to provide a quote from almost any episode. She was free-spirited and honest, never met an authority she didn't question, and laughed at herself and the absurdities of life. But most of all, she brought happiness to us all, and we'll miss her forever.

She is survived by her husband, Marc, mother Fran, siblings Adrienne '68, Charles '69, Carol '71, James, Mary '73, and Nancy '76; her brothers-in-law Fred, Michael, Tim, and Dennis; sister-in-law Erika, mother-in-law Mona, niece and nephews, cousins and friends, especially Anita and Dana, and her animals, Gracie, Flapjack and Peep.

She was preceded in death by her father, Francis M. Johnson.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 10:00 am until the start of a memorial service to be held at 11:00 am at Hultgren Funeral Home, 304 N. Main St., in Wheaton, IL 60187. Interment will be held at St. Michael Cemetery, in Wheaton, IL. Another gathering to remember Kate will be held on Labor Day, September 4, 2017 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm at Cody's Public House, 1658 W. Barry Avenue, Chicago, IL 60657.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.
