Nico Lajewski, Frank Marsico team up to lead St. Francis past Oswego East

So Marsico is, and so it was Saturday on the opening day of the Plainfield Classic at Plainfield Central.

Marsico’s first strike gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead with 36:11 remaining in the second half.

Lajewski sent a short but high-arcing pass from the right side of the box over a defender in front to Marsico, whose header dribbled over the goal line before a defender could clear it.

Marsico received the feed from Lajewski, turned to his left and fired a low liner just inside the left post for his sixth goal of the season.

It was the kind of shot one rarely sees in the average high school game.

Oswego East coach Steve Szymanski also was impressed.

“It’s tough, especially when it’s a hot day,” Marsico said. “Everyone is tired.
