Theresa Finan '15 (IMEA Choir), Serena Harnack '16 (IMEA Orchestra) and Megan Abbott '18 (IMEA Honor Band). (Serena was also asked to re-audition for Concert Master). On November 22, these students will spend the day at the District IX  festival working on their musical selections and preparing for a public concert that afternoon. The concert will take place at Aurora East High School on Saturday, November 22 at 3:00 pm.

15th Annual Spartan Toy Drive
is now underway!
We will collect NEW, UNWRAPPED toys, thru December 3, to deliver to the REACH FOR THE MOON foundation.  This foundation was established by Shelley Sensale'86 Bruss, a St. Francis alum.  Reach for the Moon helps meet the medical, dental, food and clothing needs of LOCAL children.  During the holiday season toys are collected for distribution at Christmas. Volleyball team members will collect the toys during homeroom.  There will be great deals on a variety of toys during this BLACK FRIDAY time. No toy is too large or small.  Please brighten a child's Christmas and bring a toy to homeroom during the next few days.
ACT Prep Courses

St. Francis is teaming with Kaplan Test Prep to provide ACT prep courses on the St. Francis campus this winter and spring. The winter course will start on December 4 and lead up to the February 7th exam. There will be no classes during final exam week or Christmas break. The spring course starts on January 21 and leads up to the April ACT 18th test. St. Francis students normally receive a 10% discount on this course for a total cost of $629. However, if students register between November 28 and December 16 for either course the cost is reduced by $150 from the original price to $549. Juniors will receive a mailing on this discount. If you cannot afford the course, contact Trudy Rigney to see if we can arrange for a course discount. Students can register by going to the following link which is just for St. Francis students.

Giving Blood Is a Random
Act of Kindness

On December 1, 2014 St. John Neumann and St. Patrick churches will be sponsoring their quarterly blood drive in cooperation with Heartland Blood Centers. This drive will take place from 2:00 pm to 7:30 pm at St. John Neumann church at the corner of East Main Street and Kirk Road. All healthy students, 17 years of age and older, weighing at least 110 lb., who have not given a regular blood donation since October 6, 2014 (or since August 11, 2014 for a double red donation) are encouraged to donate. Heartland will be giving each donor a pulled pork sandwich and chips, in addition to points that can be spent in Heartland's online store.

A photo ID is required. Students 16 years of age may also donate, but must bring a consent form signed by a parent or legal guardian. This can be downloaded from Questions about the donation process can be referred to Heartland at 1-800-786-4483. For questions about scheduling contact Shirley Hubbard at 630-513-8998 or Brian Watkins at 630-443-8241. Walk-ins are welcome.

Engineering Career Program

Engineering Career Program: St. Francis students are invited to 7th annual Explore Engineering Night on Friday, November 21st, 6 PM to 9:30 PM  at College of DuPage, SRC Room 2000. More than 10 speakers from both academia and industry are scheduled to discuss the work they perform as engineers. The speakers received their degrees in Bio, Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering. It is a free event that was designed to introduce students to the different majors and learn what an engineer does on the job. It will be a great experience for students who are thinking about pursuing engineering after high school. Representatives from several university engineering programs in Illinois will also be available.
