RISE UP 8th Grade Leadership Conference
On Saturday, November 7, members of the St. Francis High School National Honor Society hosted "Rise Up" - an 8th Grade Leadership Conference. RISE UP is an acronym for "Recognizing and Inspiring Students' Excellence and Undiscovered Potential." The goal for this day was to challenge young people to consider their own gifts, talents and abilities in terms of how they might uniquely embrace leadership.
For the second consecutive year, RISE UP was entirely planned and facilitated by the students of the NHS and was an opportunity for them to exercise their own leadership abilities. Throughout the day, the high school students led the eighth graders, who represented more than 15 grade schools, in various workshops, activities, discussions and games. They were challenged to problem-solve, step outside their comfort zones and prepare for high school through student-led activities that focused on themes of teamwork, attitude, communication, role-modeling and organization.
"The National Honor Society members worked very hard to prepare a day that was both educational and fun for eighth grade students, and they did an excellent job," said Christine Paolella, co-moderator of the NHS. "The high school and eighth grade students alike benefited from this opportunity to discover their leadership potential.
St. Francis Christmas Toy Drive
Today we kick off the annual St. Francis Christmas Toy Drive. This drive is very short- approximately two weeks and is sponsored by the Volleyball team. We collect NEW AND UNWRAPPED toys for children and bring them to homerooms. We distribute them through the Reach for the Moon Foundation which was established by our very own alum:  Shelley Sensale'86 Bruss. Reach for the Moon helps with the basic needs of children: food, clothing, medical and dental needs. The drive will complete the Tues. after Thanksgiving.  So, get out there and find some GREAT Black Friday deals and make a child's Christmas happier. Merry Christmas
