US Service Academy Day
Saturday, November 15

A US Service Academy Day will be held on Saturday, November 15, at 11:45 AM at the Itasca Community Library. Sponsored by the office of Congresswoman Tammy Duckworth, this program will have representatives on hand from all five service academies. The program will provide information on the academies and the academy nomination and application process.  For information or RSVP contact Matt Seeberg at or (847) 413-1959.  

Adventure Club

The Adventure Club will be going to see the musical Camelot at Drury Lane on Thursday, November 20 in the evening. Cost for the ticket is $35.  Please pick up a permission form in Ms. Fairhead's room 1110.

Chilean Student Host Opportunity
We are currently looking for short-term host families to host a handful of exceptional students from Santiago, Chile. This year our Chilean exchange students will arrive in early January and depart the first week of March or so.  This is an exchange program for our Chilean guests and current St. Francis High School students alike. Glenbard Parent Series
The Glenbard Parent Series will present "The App Generation:  How Youth Navigate Identity, Intimacy and Imagination in Today's Digital World" in two presentations on Wednesday, November 19. The first program will be from noon to 2 PM at the Marquardt Elementary District 15 Administration Center, 1860 Glen Ellyn Road, in Glendale Heights.  The second will be at 7 PM at Glenbard West High School, 670 Crescent Blvd, in Glen Ellyn.  The featured speaker will be Katie Davis.  Davis will discuss the role of digital technologies in the lives of young people and will touch on parental concerns, including sites such as Yik Yak. College Athlete Eligibility and Recruitment Information night


On Tuesday, November 18th at 7 PM in the Kuhn Cultural Arts Center, St. Francis High School will be hosting a NCAA, NAIA, and athletic recruitment parent/student-athlete information night. This will be a very informative event for our student athletes and their parents. All athletes should attend so they can plan for the future. Please contact Mr. Lindley at 630-668-5800 ext. 1114 if you have any questions. Below is a biography of our presenters. This year's format for presentations will be three 30 minute presentations, then a panel discussion at the end. Please see the information below about the speakers for this event:

  1. Shane Rosenberry is a Northern Illinois University compliance officer and will talk specifically about NCAA Eligibility. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Marketing at NIU. He wrestled at NIU for 5 years and is currently in his second year in the Sports Management Master's Program at Northern Illinois University. He is one of the two Compliance and Student Services Graduate Assistants at NIU.
  2. Cara Currier is the Compliance Coordinator for NAIA and will talk about eligibility standards. One of the winningest active coaches in NAIA volleyball, Cara Currier enters her 13th season at St. Francis in 2014. Currier, who also serves as USF's assistant director of athletics, received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in both mathematics and secondary education from Augustana College in 1990 and a Master of Science degree in sports management from Western Illinois University in 1998.
  3. Cecil Martin works at NCSA Athletic Recruiting Network in Chicago. He earned a full athletic scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-Madison to play football. He was a 4-year starter, captain for Big Ten and Rose Bowl championship team, co-MVP, and also earned a Big Ten title on the track team. He was a 2- time winner of the NFCA (National Football Coaches Association) Good Works team for community service and graduated with a degree in communications.

Upon graduation, the Philadelphia Eagle drafted him into the NFL. As a 4-year starter with the Philadelphia Eagles He earned the NFL Unsung Hero award 2 years in a row and also earned the Ed Block Courage award, both for community service and leadership. He would go on to play with the Oakland Raiders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers and has since been speaking in schools all over the country the past 15 years. Martin will guide parents about the benefits of playing collegiate sports, understanding whether an athlete is being recruited, strategies on how to maximize an athlete's recruiting potential, Timelines for college recruiting, The importance of character and keeping good grades, and The five things every potential college recruit must do.

Engineering Career Program

Engineering Career Program: St. Francis students are invited to 7th annual Explore Engineering Night on Friday, November 21st, 6 PM to 9:30 PM  at College of DuPage, SRC Room 2000. More than 10 speakers from both academia and industry are scheduled to discuss the work they perform as engineers. The speakers received their degrees in Bio, Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, and Industrial Engineering. It is a free event that was designed to introduce students to the different majors and learn what an engineer does on the job. It will be a great experience for students who are thinking about pursuing engineering after high school. Representatives from several university engineering programs in Illinois will also be available.

Rise Up is an opportunity for all current 8th graders to participate in a St. Francis High School, National Honor Society run day of leadership, teamwork, character building, and service to prepare for high school and beyond.
