Used Uniform Collection Time

As the school year draws to a close, do you have St. Francis school uniforms that you've outgrown, never used, or just won't need in college?  Please consider donating them to the UNIFORM RESALE.  In addition to cleaning out your closets, you will be providing affordable uniforms to next year's SFHS students. As an added bonus, proceeds are used to provide financial assistance for a St. Francis student.  It's a win-win-win all around!  Starting Monday 5/12, look for collection bins around the school. We will accept clean, gently used uniforms until Thursday, 6/12.  The UNIFORM RESALE will be held during the summer book test on June 17th.

For questions or to volunteer at the resale, please contact Tami Martin, 630-307-0722 or tami.bosch@gmail.com

Adventure Club

Adventure Club will be playing laser tag at Laser Quest in Downers Grove on Friday, May 2.  We will then go out to dinner at Portillo's afterwards.  Interested students should get the permission form from Ms. Fairhead in room 1110.  There are limited spots available for this very popular event, and they will be given to the first students who return the form & deposit.

Serena Harnack Invited to Attend Music Program

St. Francis High School sophomore Serena Harnack was one of 12 students nationwide invited to participate in the 2014 Brian Lewis Young Artist Program which is being held June 22- July 3 in Ottawa, Kansas. Through this free program, Serena will receive private instruction, time to rehearse with the orchestra, and the opportunity to perform solo with the Ottawa Chamber Symphony.

Serena's audition was a DVD recording of her performing a Tchaikovsky Concerto movement, a Bach Solo, and a Sarasate's Carmen Fantasy Showpiece.   Together with her application, list of studies, and a letter of recommendation from her private instructor, the audition was judged on a number of criteria as well as overall musicianship. Her admission to this program was highly selective.

Serena was invited and also attended this program both in 2010 and 2011.  She studied at Chautauqua, NY in 2012 and 2013.

Each area high school was able to choose one senior for the award who demonstrated academic excellence and leadership qualities through extracurricular activities, school citizenship and community service. The student winner for St. Francis High School was Nathan Gartlan.

"As parents, teachers, coaches and mentors, we strive to put in place every opportunity so that our kids can succeed," said Roskam. "So nights like tonight are extra special, because we're honoring a group of high school seniors who have not only taken advantage of the educational opportunities their schools provide but also the programs and activities in the community to go above and beyond all of our hopes and expectations. I applaud each student recognized here tonight, they have accomplished so much already and prepared themselves well for the next chapters of their lives."

Congratulations to the new members of the National Honor Society who were inducted on April 13th, 2014.
