Students Build Solar Suitcase
Four students from St. Francis High School's Advanced Placement Environmental Science class, Elizabeth Allgaier '17, Michael Dahle '17, Katie Kubik '17 and Kelly Joniak '16, recently built a Solar Suitcase with Solar Ambassador for the Illinois Solar Energy Association (ISEA), Mike Bullock, father of Jessica '15 and Daniel '18.

In 2008, We Care Solar was founded in order to provide enhanced medical opportunities for midwives in Northern Nigeria.  The company has grown and as of November, has equipped 27 countries with approximately 1300 Solar Suitcases.  According to their website (wecaresolar.com), they "design portable, cost-effective Solar Suitcases that power critical lighting, mobile communications devices and medical devices in low resource areas without reliable electricity.  By equipping off-grid medical clinics with solar power for medical and surgical lighting, cell phones and essential medical devices, We Care Solar facilitates timely and appropriate emergency care, reducing maternal and infant morbidity and mortality, and improving the quality of care in Africa, Haiti and other regions."

Bullock, current member of the Board of Directors and leader for the Solar Ambassador committee, taught the St. Francis High School students about the importance of solar energy for our planet.  He also provided a hands-on experience for the students to see how solar energy can make a difference in saving lives.  The Solar Suitcase they built will travel throughout the state as part of the ISEA's efforts to educate and advocate for solar energy in Illinois.

Service Hour Information
By April 15, 2016 students will submit their Service Hours (Time Log and Reflection Paper). Service Hours are recorded online.

Students should log on to Naviance, click the 'about me' tab, and click the Service Hour Survey on the upper left hand corner.

Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshmen who have not submitted their Service Hours will not receive a schedule of classes for the 2016-2017 school year and will not be permitted to start school in August 2016 until all service requirements are met.

Seniors who have not submitted their Service Hours will be required to attend school Thursday, May 19, and Friday, May 20 in order to fulfill this graduation requirement.

Please see your religion teacher if you have any questions.
Prom Dress Guidelines
As you are shopping for your daughter's prom dress, remember to check whether she can sit, walk, and dance in the dress. The dress should be of an age-appropriate length and cut; cutouts in the dress are not permitted. The dresses must completely cover from side seam to side seam. The back must not go lower than the natural waist.Two-piece dresses are not permitted. Remember, the dance is a lot more fun when the dress fits comfortably.
