Music Department Successful
at IHSA Competition

The SFHS Music Department is extremely excited to announce their great success at the IHSA Class "A" Solo & Ensemble competition Saturday, March 7 at Huntley High School. All high schools across the state are assigned to an IHSA Regional location where they perform solo and small ensemble pieces in three categories-Vocal, Band, and Orchestra. Our music program sent 84 soloists, 29 ensembles including the Chamber Choir as a whole. Of these entries, 50 received a superior score of "1" (the highest) and 47 received an excellent score of "2". These soloists and ensemble members will receive medals from IHSA.

After the IHSA calculates an overall total score for each school, these scores are ranked by class and placements announced. We are thrilled to announce that St. Francis High School Music Department finished 4th overall!   In both the Vocal Division and the Orchestral Division, St. Francis also received 4th and the Band Division received 7th place overall. This year the Class "A" is represented by 59 schools.

Congratulations to Mr. Mamminga and Mrs. Schroeder and all of the students in the SFHS Music Department!

Attention Parents of Junior Students
Class of 2016

NEW Meningococcal Vaccine Requirements Start
with School Year 2015-16!

The new law will require 2 doses of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine for 12th grade entrance, unless the first dose was administered to a child who was 16 years of age or older, in which case only one dose would be required at 12th grade entrance.

If your student (class of 2016 only) has not had a meningococcal vaccine since at age 16 or later they will need to show proof of having received a meningococcal vaccine upon return to school next August. We will be sending notification to you in the mail regarding your student's status.

SFHS Theatre Students
Visited New York
In February, 22 St. Francis High School students and two faculty chaperones went to NYC for an extended weekend filled with Broadway shows, theatre workshops and site seeing.

The students participated in a musical theatre workshop, at the Ripley/Grier rehearsal studios, with the music director of Broadway's Pippin and a cast member from Broadway's Matilda. In 90 minutes, they learned the choreography and music and performed the finale from the Broadway production of Matilda.  "While working with our students, the clinicians repeatedly asked if we were from a performing arts conservatory, because their talent level and energy was so incredible," said Carolyn Brady, St. Francis High School's Spring Musical Director.

After seeing the production of Gentlemen's Guide to Love and Murder, the students participated in a question and answer session with Tony and Emmy Award winning cast member Jefferson Mays.  They also had the opportunity to meet stage and screen actor, Alan Cummings, star of Cabaret, and got autographs from Emma Stone, who also appeared in the show.

In addition to their busy itinerary, the students also took some time to ice skate at Rockefeller Center and visit the 9/11 Memorial, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and Radio City Music Hall.
