Auction Update

St. Francis High School was feeling the love on Saturday night at the Ensuring Our Future auction! Whether you attended A Summer Soiree or bid remotely from home, the outcome was record breaking. As soon as we have the final number, we'll make an announcement to let you know.

The goal for the Fund a Cause: Keepin' Cool; East Wing Air Conditioning is in sight. We will accept donations for this cause through March 22nd. If you'd like to contribute, please click on the link. KEEPIN COOL

A few housekeeping notes:

  • Ladies, check your coat. You may have taken the wrong coat on Saturday night. If you have a women's black faux Persian lamb coat from White House Black Market, size S or M, please contact Debbie Quirk in the Development office at
  • If you brought home a winning package and don't' know what to do with the basket, please return it to the main office. We'll use it again next year!

Thank you to all who supported the auction in one way or another. It was a success and we are grateful for that!

Daddy Daughter Dance
Saturday, March 14th
The Daddy Daughter Dance is this Saturday, March 14th from 7:30pm-9:30pm in the Slant Dome. Please enter through Door 4. RSVP's with $30 payment will be accepted at the door. The student government is looking forward to hosting a fun event for you!

Blood Drive a Huge Success!

This year's drive was very successful, with 121 units of blood collected, the most ever at St. Francis High School.

Some students commented that they were donating in memory of someone, because it was cool to think someone else could use their blood, and because it was a good thing to do. Others admitted that they were still donating despite their fear of needles. Most impactful, however, was a visit from St. Francis High School's athletic trainer, Michelle Kramer and her daughter. Kramer's daughter was a recipient of 40 units of blood in the hospital as an infant, and is living proof of how important it is to donate.

Thank you again to the 196 students, faculty, staff and parents that signed up to donate and to Donna Hoscheit and Mike Lynch for running this life saving event.

ACT Registration Deadline
Friday, March 13

Junior students and parents should note that Friday, March 13, is the regular deadline to register for the April 18, 2015, ACT test.  Students who miss this Friday's deadline can still register until March 27, however they will pay an extra $24 late fee and may not get the test center of choice.  Registration must be completed by the student at St. Francis has no part in the registration process.  We strongly advise that the student take the ACT with Writing.

Lenten Reflection Group

All students are invited to take time out for a mini-retreat during the Lenten season!  On Thursdays, a Lenten Reflection Group will meet in the Chapel from 7-7:30am. The Lenten Reflection Group will meet every Thursday during Lent- come when you can! Questions? See senior Meg Baratta, junior Natalie Blank, or KRas in Room 1207.

Our primary purpose is for participants to engage in meaningful ways within the community and create lasting relationships.

Student Anxiety/Stress Reduction Presentation

Parents and students of St. Francis are invited to hear Dr. Patrick McGrath speak on the subject of anxiety, stress, and how to better respond in the Spartan Theatre on Wednesday, March 18th at 6:30 PM. As the end of the year approaches, it is a good time to help students use positive coping mechanisms when it comes to stress and anxiety.

Don't Try Harder, Try Different is a stress management approach that is based on the idea that trying harder at something that is not working is a waste of time. Sometimes we need to do something else, something different.

Join Dr. McGrath as he walks you through ways to deal with stress that involve both research and humor, and leave with techniques that you can start to use right away.

In his current role, Dr. McGrath is the Director of the Anxiety and OCD Program and the Co-Director of the School Anxiety and School Refusal Program at Alexian Brothers Behavioral Health Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. He is also a member of the scientific advisory board of the Obsessive Compulsive Foundation. He is the author of a stress management workbook called "Don't Try Harder, Try Different" and "The OCD Answer Book," available at bookstores across the country and on-line. Dr. McGrath has also been featured in many newspapers, journals, and magazines, and has been on numerous radio stations across the country, including The Sally Jesse Raphael show, The Steve Cochran Show on WGN, and National Public Radio. He also does numerous speaking engagements across the country, has an active research program, and presents at national conferences focusing on anxiety disorders.
