Joe Buchholz ‘84 and Raymond J. Reid ‘61
Joe started working at a young age. When he was 13 years old, he began working at St. Francis High School as a custodian as a means to help offset the cost of tuition. Together with his three brothers, Joe transitioned his first job to a full time career. The Buchholz brothers currently co-own and manage Buck Services, a Cleaning/ Maintenance and Facility Management company that serves schools, churches, and commercial operations. Joe is very involved in the business community and has received multiple awards including: Young Entrepreneurial Award, Honoree for the 2013 Illinois Family Business of the year, 2010 Award for Business Excellence in West Chicago, and most recently 2016 award from Assurance Agency for Minimizing Risk, Maximizing Health (MRMH) in the workplace.
Throughout Joe’s life, he’s been inspired by the Catholic education he received and by his parents who were the models of Christian Faith. For many years, he has volunteered his time as a Catechist at St. Michael teaching 5th and 6th graders and continues to be involved with Illinois Citizens for Life and DuPage Pads. Much like his parents, Joe also serves as a role model to his own children. Along with his wife, Tracy, Joe volunteers with the Faith Formation classes and Vacation Bible School camps held at St. Michael.
Distinguished Alumni Joe uses his business acumen to contribute back to local businesses; he is Chairman of the Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce, a committee member with the Oak Brook Chamber of Commerce, a service committee member with the Illinois Association of School Business Officials, and mentors college students and business start-ups. In addition, Joe has been heavily involved in our St. Francis High School community serving on the Institutional Advancement (formerly Development) Committee and is currently President of the St. Francis Alumni Association Board, after being a member for many years.
Joe and his wife Tracy have been married for more than 21 years and currently reside in Wheaton with their four children. In his spare time, outside of all his volunteer work, Joe enjoys spending time with his family and reading business and motivational books and magazines.
Raymond J. Reid ‘61 is a recently retired Senior Vice President and investment manager for Brown Brothers Harriman & Co. (BBH), a New Yorkbased private bank founded in 1818. He oversaw the professional staff and managed the investments of high-net worth individuals as well as various nonprofit organizations for 40 years, spending 25 years of those years with BBH. Ray’s professional affiliations include the Investment Analyst Society of Chicago, the Association for Investment Management and Research, and Sigma Iota Epsilon (national honorary management fraternity).
Ray has board experience serving on the Dominican University Board of Trustees. He was a member of the Dominican University (DU) Board for 18 years, which included a nine year extension. He served as Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee for 10 years during a time of endowment growth, selection of money managers, and two capital campaigns. Ray’s service and financial leadership led the university to rewrite the by-laws to allow him to serve beyond the nine year term limit. This change allowed Ray to spearhead an adhoc committee that performed the due diligence work in purchasing the Dominican Priory. His contributions to the University were recognized when he was honored with the University’s Exemplary Service Award.
Distinguished Alumni Ray remains active in other areas of the community. He is a member of Naperville Country Club where he served as Secretary and an atlarge board member for eight years and is currently a member of the Finance and Greens Committees. He also sits on the Financial Advisory Committee for the Sisters of the Resurrection Order, located in Chicago, and has provided financial counsel for the past five years. Ray was nominated and elected to the St Francis Board of Directors and this began nine years of service. He initially served on the Finance Committee where he eventually became Chair of the committee, then Vice Chair of the Board and subsequently Chair of the Board. He was instrumental in restructuring the investments to accommodate funding for the Science wing and financing for the project. He then chaired the ad-hoc Endowment Committee that was instrumental in selecting an investment manager and creating an investment policy. More recently, he oversaw the restructuring of the Institutional Advancement (formerly Development) Committee and established other ad-hoc committees to provide broader Board governance, including Strategic Planning.
Ray earned a Masters degree from Northern Illinois University and a Bachelor’s degree from Loras College. He also graduated, with distinction, from Northwestern University National Graduate Trust School. Ray ‘61, a SFHS graduate, and his wife, SFHS graduate Rosemarie Komen Reid, reside in Wheaton. They have two children and five grandchildren.
