Congratulations to this year's Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership recipient:  Gabi Napoli. "HOBY is the catalyst for transformation and we start by changing the lives of high school sophomores continuing throughout their high school career. What to do when my child is ill

If your child is ill and cannot attend school for a few days:

  • Contact Mrs. Meadows at ext. 1107 in the main office to notify her of the illness. Please clearly explain the nature of the illness.
    • Due to ongoing efforts to assure the health of all students, if you are calling your child in absent, please indicate whether it is because:
      • your child has an Influenza-like Illness (ILI) defined as fever (100°F or greater) and a cough and/or sore throat in the absence of a KNOWN cause other than influenza; or
      • your child has other reasons for being absent
  • Please call Mrs. Hoscheit, the school nurse, at ext. 1146, if your child has or is being treated for a childhood or communicable disease such as: chicken pox; impetigo; MRSA; hand, foot and mouth disease; mono or shingles.
  • The student or parent should contact the teachers via email to request assignments.  Teacher emails are listed on the Academic tab of the school website.
  • The parent should stop by school to obtain the student's books from his/her locker or have a friend bring home what is needed
  • Upon return to school, the student should present a doctor's note to Mrs. Meadows in the Main Office if he/she has been under a doctor's care.  The student must speak with each teacher regarding what is missed and make note of deadlines for make up work.

If your child is in the hospital or ill for an extended period of time (5 school days or more):

  • Contact Mrs. Meadows at ext. 1107 in the main office to notify her of the illness and explain the exact nature of the illness.
  • Contact Mrs. Hoscheit, the school nurse, at ext. 1146 to notify her of the illness. Mrs. Hoscheit can also notify the student's counselor, but if you wish to have a conversation with the counselor, feel free to do so.  For mental health issues please contact the Guidance Counselor.
  • Ask Mrs. Hoscheit or the student's Guidance Counselor to inform teachers of the extended absence and request assignments.  Most homework will be communicated to the home via email.
  • Upon return to school, the student should present a doctor's note to Mrs. Meadows in the Main Office.  Also, the student must speak with each teacher regarding what is missed and make note of deadlines for make up work.  Since extended absences make this more complex and overwhelming, the student should work with the Guidance Counselor on how to manage the make up work.
