His career first began at the accounting firm of KMG Main Hurdman where he became a partner in 1977. At KMG, he served in several leadership roles including the firm’s Strategic Planning Committee. Upon joining Crowe, Mr. McKenna was instrumental in helping to lead the firm’s growth to its current status as one of the ten largest public accounting and consulting firms in the United States.

Throughout his tenure with Crowe Horwath, Mr. McKenna has had many significant roles in the firm’s development and has been active on many of the firm’s internal committees including the Visioning Committee which is credited with developing the firm’s overall management philosophy, vision and values. He served two terms (one term as member and one term as Chairman) on the firm’s Executive Committee, Crowe’s governing body, and has developed a reputation of always balancing partner needs with the needs of the firm for continued growth. His service on the Strategic Alliance Committee has been instrumental in guiding the firm’s M&A activity. He held a key role in developing the firm’s affiliation with Horwath International having served as an international liaison partner. After many years of growing the firm’s Corporate Finance Group while serving as Partner in Charge of the firm’s Oak Brook, Illinois office, he was asked to take on the challenge of establishing an investment banking firm. In 2000, he founded and became head of Crowe Capital Markets LLC, a broker-dealer headquartered in Chicago, which has experienced solid growth since its inception.

Mr. McKenna has over thirty years of experience in mergers and acquisitions, including completing in excess of 100 M&A transactions involving businesses with revenues ranging from $50 million to $3 billion, and has managed significant international assignments. Specific assignments include the role of senior financial advisor to Daimler-Benz in its acquisition of Freightliner Corporation, and in its joint venture with ABB in the mass transit sector. He also assisted a Europe-based client in implementing its worldwide diversification strategy. In addition, Mr. McKenna has been the senior financial advisor to many domestic middle market businesses, assisting them in the negotiation and successful closing of numerous investment banking transactions. His broad and diverse background in every area of the M&A process, and his management of transactions for both small and blue-chip clients, has given him a reputation as a respected deal maker.

Mr. McKenna has served as a speaker and panel member at the American Management Association and at various international forums and has been featured in "Who’s Who” in Crain’s Chicago Business.
