On Sunday, February 22, ten girls from St. Francis High School’s varsity softball team volunteered to prepare and serve brunch for the families staying at Central DuPage Hospital’s Ronald McDonald House.  The menu included pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, toast and a fruit platter.

According to Assistant Coach Bill Melka, while not required, this service is considered a leadership project and opportunity for the team, and the girls jump at the chance to participate.  The girls do all of the organizing from scheduling their date with the Ronald McDonald House to planning the menu, shopping, cooking and serving the food.  There is no help from the staff as this program is entirely run by the volunteers.

This is the third time in six years that the team has participated in this type of project, but it’s the first year they were able to do it locally with the new Ronald McDonald House at Central DuPage Hospital.  In previous years, they served at the House at Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago.
