Wheaton Mayor Makes Special Announcement at St. Francis High School

Monday, December 8, 2014 is officially named "St. Francis High School Girls Volleyball Class 3A State Championship Day" in Wheaton!

Wheaton Mayor Michael J. Gresk made the following announcement here at St. Francis following the Feast of the Immaculate Conception Mass this morning:

WHEREAS, the St. Francis High School Girls Volleyball Team has completed its 2014 season; and

WHEREAS, this is th...e St. Francis Girls Volleyball Team’s third consecutive Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the St. Francis High School Girls Volleyball Team has won a total of eleven State titles with Class A State Championships in 1988, 1991, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2003, and 2004, and the Class 2A Championship in 2006, as well as the 2012, 2013, and 2014 Class 3A Championships; and

WHEREAS, the St. Francis High School Girls Volleyball Team won the 2014 Class 3A State Championship by defeating Joliet Catholic Academy 25-18 in Game 1 and 25-23 in Game 2 and finished their season with a 38-4 record; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Peg Kopec, with a career record of 1,206 victories, has led the St. Francis team to all of their eleven State Championships, the State record for a coach.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Michael J. Gresk, Mayor, and the Wheaton City Council do hereby proclaim Monday, December 8, 2014, as “St. Francis High School Girls Volleyball Class 3A State Championship Day” and extend the City’s heartiest congratulations to the team, parents, administration, faculty and students of St. Francis High School for their school spirit and outstanding Girls Volleyball Team coached by Peg Kopec, Lisa Ston, and Dave Boze.
